It was just a laugh 
among hushed voices in a café.
Like a gentle ripple in a still pond.
A sincere show of amusement 
on a regular Friday morning.
 
Yet it stayed with me, 
as I went on my way.
Even a week later, 
I pondered at its cause.
 
And to this day 
I hear it bouncing off walls,
Along quiet trails of indefinite thought.
And when I pass this part of town 
My ears listen 
to hear it again.
